Block spam emails sent to unknown recipients
Many organisations are bombarded each day with thousands of spam emails directed to non-existent addresses. Among other things, these emails cause a deluge of NDR’s (Non Delivery Reports), which in turn needlessly hold up email queues. With iQ.Suite, you can easily block these emails. Here’s how it’s done:
Step by Step:
- Create a new iQ.Suite Wall Address Filtering job. This job should be at the start of the processing order.

- Create address procedures for all external emails sent to the organisation, unless the recipient is contained in the Active Directory/LDIF file.

‘Active Directory Objects’ is found under ‘iQ.Suite Address Lists’. This object represents iQ.Suite’s knowledge of all users, groups, etc. that exist in the Active Directory/LDIF. Conversely, all internal recipients who are not recognised by iQ.Suite are treated as non-existent users.
- The actions you should take are ‘Copy to Quarantine’ and ‘Delete E-mail'. The affected emails are thus first of all placed in quarantine. This has a two-fold purpose: Firstly, the emails collected there are checked and secondly, no unwanted NDR’s are created by the Exchange/SMTP server.

- IMPORTANT: This process is not technically able to distinguish between a mistyped recipient address and a deliberate spam attack. That is why the emails in the ‘Unknown recipient’ quarantine have to be checked.
